My name is Bonnie Baker, I am the Gateway Special Education Teacher. I will serve all students on our campus. I attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. I have degrees in Psychology and Sociology. I am certified by the Texas Education Association in Special Education K-12 and Science 4-8.
Prior to becoming a teacher, for about 20 years, I worked in psychiatric hospitals, treatment facilities, shelters and ROPES courses working mostly with adolescents. I started teaching in 2002.
I enjoy surfing, scuba diving and almost any water activity in the summer. I like being outside camping, sitting, listening and observing nature in the “big room” as I like to refer to the great outdoors. Doing almost anything in the “big room” is preferable to me unless it’s freezing and there is not enough snow to sled in. Camp fires are a favorite of mine.
This is my first year teaching at Gateway and I look forward to starting a new chapter in my academic career.
My goal for our students this year is to equip them with many tools to change their perspective. I will offer many opportunities for looking at things in a different way. We will accomplish this through group and individual challenges.
If you need to reach me you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 512-772-7820. My planning period is from 1:50-3:00. I will be happy to support all students and parents.
